the UCP government has appointed new board chairs for U of C, U of A, SAIT and Mount Royal. They all seem to come from business backgrounds. #ableg
Former Edmonton city councillor Michael Phair is no longer the chair of the University of Alberta Board of Governors. He is being replaced Kate Chisholm. #ableg
This seems like a really big deal. Phair was appointed as U of A chair by the previous NDP government to replace Doug Goss. #ableg
And Ray Martin, the former NDP leader, is no longer the chair of NAIT. The new chair is Ray Pisani. #ableg
There has been a huge shake-up of board members at many colleges and universities. #ableg
James Rajotte, the former Conservative MP, is now on the U of A board of governors. #ableg
Alex Pourbaix is the new chair of the Mount Royal Board of Governors. Sue Mallon, who was appointed by the previous NDP government, is out. #ableg
Pourbaix is the president and CEO of Cenovus energy. #ableg
Geeta Sankappanavar, is president of Grafton Asset Management, is the new chair of U of C. #ableg
Anyhow, gotta write a story. There is more to come. #Ableg
And the minister of Advanced Education @demetriosnAB IS NOT AVAILABLE TODAY to take questions about this. #ableg
@demetriosnAB I just got off the phone with his press secretary who refused to tell me why he is not available. And what else he could be doing today? #ableg
@demetriosnAB Is he having surgery? Is he out of the country? Is he backpacking and out of cell range? COME ON. #ableg
@demetriosnAB Maybe there is a really good reason. But his press secretary wouldn't tell me what it is. #ableg
@demetriosnAB The government is just firing off the news releases today. There are changes to the WCB board, the municipal government board, the rules of court committee, and AHS. #ableg
@demetriosnAB The new chair of the WCB is Erna Ference, chair of Alberta Chicken Producers. She wasn't a fan of how the previous government rolled out Bill 6. albertaviews.ca/beyond-bill-6/ #ableg
Other appointments as @davecournoyer notes, former PC MLA Janice Sarich is on the MacEwan board of governors, former PC cabinet minister Donna Kennedy-Glans is on the board of the Banff Centre. #ableg
@davecournoyer Sue Riddell Rose, president and CEO of Perpetual Energy, is on the board of Mount Royal. Janet Riopel, president of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, is named to the NAIT board. #ableg
Now we have a release on the Human Rights Commission. One of the five new appointees, Moin Yahya , is a U of A law professors and a senior fellow at the Fraser Institute. #ableg
UPDATE: I will be speaking to Advanced Education Minister @demetriosnAB about these changes this afternoon. #ableg
@demetriosnAB ANNNDDDD Len Rhodes, the former Edmonton Eskimos president, and UCP candidate in Edmonton-Meadows (he didn't win), was just named the chair of the AGLC. #ableg
@demetriosnAB More post-secondary appointment info - the new chair of Keyano College in Fort McMurray is Shelley Powell, a vice-president with Suncor. The former chair was Maggie Farrington, the CEO of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation. #ableg
@demetriosnAB The new chair of SAIT board is Scott Thon, who is president of Berkshire Hathaway Energy Canada #ableg
