Ich war gestern auf einer Einbürgerungszeremonie. Jede/r Neubürger/in konnte ein paar Wort sagen, warum sie Deutsche geworden sind. Es war lustig, rührend und insgesamt fantastisch. Ein paar Beispiele:
Da war die Uigurin, die wegen der Meinungsfreiheit nach Deutschland gekommen ist und glücklich darüber war, am 70sten Jahrestag der Erklärung der Menschenrechte die deutsche Staatsbürgerschaft zu erhalten.

Der 80-Jährige, der vor 60 Jahren mit nur einem Koffer aus der Türkei nach Deutschland kam, um "ein bisschen Knete zu machen und dann wieder abzuhauen". Der feststellte, dass seine Familie mittlerweile 15-köpfig ist und er der einzige "Fremde" - und darum jetzt Deutscher wurde.

1/9: The debate on #Brexit isn’t moving forward. At best it’s going round in circles. Or regressing to the pre Chequers era. The public positions of both Johnson & Hunt on renegotiation by October are unrealistic & they must know it. A thread of thoughts on this.
2/9: Conventional wisdom now says no deal is growing more likely. I disagree. We’ve had a good look at no deal and decided not to go there. It’s a wasting political bogeyman... unless Parliament screws up badly, which it may, or the EU force the issue, which I still doubt.
3/9: Johnson will try smoke & mirrors on the backstop & tweaks on the future relationship to squeak a revised deal through in October. He has a chance, but I doubt it will work. If it doesn’t, another A50 extension is likely, linked to either an election or 2nd referendum.

As the UK pores over the government's no-deal notices, let's have a look at how all of this is seen on the EU side.

Running thread (👇) on reactions & commentary from EU media, industry groups, politicians, etc.
German centre-left @SZ sees today's no-deal publications as partly “a threat to make the EU accommodate London in the [Brexit] negotiations.”

Writes that Theresa May uses "fear as a weapon", also against opponents within her own party.

Also Austrian daily @derStandardat writes that the UK government “has recognised that such a [no-deal] scenario can help her to exert pressure on the EU.”
