Here's a problem in our understanding of "Gospel" if salvation of the soul is the only thing that matters. Than the life and ministry of Jesus becomes inconsequential
If believing in Jesus for eschatological benefits is the point than justice, compassion, and character no longer matter.
But here's the irony... The biblical "socialist" cherries evangelicals excoriate... Wouldn't be able to be picked if they weren't there to begin with
Biblical hospitality to strangers, refugees, the poor, the orphan, the widow are not abstract ideas... They are central to the biblical witness
The problem is not that these ideas are co-opted by a socialist reading of the text... But rather why aren't these passages taken seriously by people who pride themselves to be textual literalist?
It's easier to love Jesus when that love comes with no material ramifications for our human interactions
I mean we all love God with our lips... But far too often our hearts are far from God
Imagine... at your big age... Invalidating scriptures concerning treating our neighbors with dignity... While holding brown babies in cages
Christians blame our piss poor politics on Jesus
When in reality the politics of Christ are deeply rooted in communal health, sharing, and dignity.
Everybody loves Jesus until it's time to follow Jesus
