Diana Sanchez delivered her baby alone in her cell in Denver County jail, after deputies ignored her cries for help for more than five hours. This, despite them knowing she was in labor and her cell being video-monitored. washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/08…
This is not unusual.

In April, Tammy Jackson was found lying in her cell in Broward County jail, bleeding and holding her newborn baby. She had delivered them alone after guards ignored her screaming that she needed help and was experiencing contractions. miamiherald.com/news/local/com…
Sinetra Geter delivered her twins prematurely in a South Carolina prison. Her screams for help as she delivered her first baby while sitting on a toilet in a prison bathroom were ignored. Guards then left the baby to drown in the toilet. The twin survived.

Everyone finding it hard to wrap their heads around all the terrible things that allowed Jeffrey Epstein to kill himself in jail, maybe sit with these cases for a while. Then realize these also are not extraordinary circumstances.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. I never share anything personal on here, but 4 years ago, I lost my baby sister, Cate, to suicide. It was the hardest thing I have ever experienced. I also know it is a remarkably common one, so please know, if it is yours, you are alone.

In Brooklyn night court, a colleague had a client charged with stealing an ice cream cone. The prosecutor offered a misdemeanor plea & time served.

The judge said nope, 30 days jail.

The ADA said they'd agree to release w/o bail.

The judge said nope, he was gonna set bail.
Colleague decided to hold case over for next day arraignments.

Judge then decided he would do whatever he could to stymie this plan & put note in court file that his recommendation was 30 days jail.

Judges are hesitant to undercut other judges plea recommendations.
The prosecutor who previously had been willing to make the time served offer and release the client without bail, then changed their offer to 30 days to match the judge's offer.

On October 10, Texas plans to execute Randy Halprin, who is Jewish. His attorneys are seeking a stay based on anti-Semitic and racial bias shown by the trial judge, Vickers Cunningham, who referred to Mr. Halprin as "that fuckin' Jew" and a "goddamn kike.” texastribune.org/2019/09/06/ran…
Cunningham also commented that Jews "needed to be shut down because they controlled all the money and all the power."
As per Sister Helen Prejean, he made these comments after leaving the bench, about Black and Brown people who came before him as defendants, several of whom he also sentenced to death.

For those who don't know my story (a thread):

I gave birth on the 1st of January 2019 to a beautiful baby girl completely unaware of what the following days had in store for us both.

Both Boo Boo and I had complications for a whole month.

Labour started early that day. The contractions woke me up. When I went to the loo to pee, I saw brown, slimy discharge after wiping myself.

This didn't look right. I remember my gynae told me if I see anything different, I should know I'm in labour.

My gut knew I was. Upon arrival at the hospital, I found out that my gynae was on leave because his daughter had an accident. The only doctors available were the 2 on-call in-house gynaes.

Good morning from the Broward County Superivisor of Elections, where the recount process is underway.

I just saw an employee enter with a 1 gallon jug of water and two 5 hour energy shots.
The Broward County recount still not underway (tho supposed to start soon), more than four hours after it was supposed to begin at 7am. A problem with one machine forced extra testing, then brief debate involving paper clips, then another about who gets to be in tabulation room.
And we’re off! Broward County recount is finally underway. Was supposed to start at 7am, Miami-Dade started last night.
