Interesting. The swine flu outbreak in #China that's killed millions of pigs there is also causing a shortage of anti-clotting drug Heparin, though FDA says there's still enough supply.

Most of Heparin's active ingredient comes from China.

But, who else is a major producer of Heparin? None other than Fresenius.
Fresenius is actually under bribery investigation involving at least 13 countries:

#China / the CCP created a white list of people they want to reward for shilling for China and overlooking their human rights abuses.

They didn’t name names, but said the people who signed an open letter to Trump & Congress would “be viewed favorably.”

Malaysia'strying recover over $950M that was siphoned from #1MDB subsidiary SRC International, which looks to me like another #GreenScam.

SRC was originally set up to invest in "energy and renewable resources" yet they transferred $ to offshore Swiss accts and a coal company.
I should clarify that it was a coal exploration company - I didn't have enough room to fit it all above. Not much difference, though.

THREAD: we’ve received questions from reporters and others related to the generic drug review program at #FDA; and what review activities will continue during the shutdown. I want to provide some information related to these inquiries:
During the lapse period, FDA will not accept generic drug submissions that require payment of a fee (e.g., Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs))
FDA will accept generic submissions for which no fee is required, if product is within the scope of the GDUFA program. These submissions include, for example: CBE supplements and prior approval supplements to approved ANDAs, Amendments, Annual reports, Applications for PET drugs

Compounded drugs serve an important medical need for patients who can’t use an FDA-approved medication. In today’s #FDA #SUNDAYTWEETORIAL, I’m going to talk about what FDA is doing to preserve access to appropriately compounded drugs while protecting patients from serious risks.
In drug compounding, ingredients are combined, mixed or altered to create a sterile or non-sterile medication tailored to a patient - such as those with an allergy who need a drug without a certain dye or a child who can’t swallow a tablet and needs medicine in a liquid form.
But compounded drugs, which aren’t FDA-approved, may pose serious risks if not produced properly, potentially resulting in contamination or medications that do not possess the strength, quality or purity they are supposed to have bit.ly/2G7IpjB

The topic of this week’s #FDA #SUNDAYTWEETORIAL is #drugshortages. FDA does everything possible within our authority to help address shortages. While we’ve made progress to mitigate shortages; we must do even more to understand and address the root causes of persistent shortages
Manufacturing & quality issues are some of the proximate causes of drug shortages. Availability of raw materials; unexpected increases in demand, i.e. due to illness outbreaks or changes in clinical practice; or unavailability of other drugs in a class also can lead to a shortage
We’ve seen # of new drug shortages steadily decline due to work by FDA, industry and others. In 2017, we worked w/ manufacturers to prevent 145 shortages. There were still 35 new shortages last year, but this compared to peak of 251 new shortages in ‘11 bit.ly/2JiNGpf

Enough. 92% of Americans support allowing the federal government to negotiate prescription drug prices for seniors on Medicare Part D. We need to act on my bill (33 cosponsors so far!) to make it happen.
Enough. 72% of Americans support the purchase of prescription drugs – with the same dosages & safety standards – imported from Canada. It’s time for Congress to act on my bill with @SenJohnMcCain to allow safe, affordable prescription drugs from Canada.
