Perhaps I am missing something, but aren't we living the script leading to a "People vs Parliament" election?
Whether HoC is able to legislate an extension or not, an election will come. And Johnson will be able to blame any extension ("Corbyn surrender") on Parliament.

Now, what the result of that election will be and how it could change the government's negotiating stance, that's unknown.

So either we get a No Deal (HoC's efforts could be stymied, fail in the Lords, ignored or stalled).
Or we get a people vs parliament election.
And before that election, the Tory party can morph into the Brexit Party, by deselecting Remainers & soft-Leavers.
