Do people really think the feminist/women's press, black press and LGBTQ press aren't "real"? Millions of people are reading those venues. This idea that if str8 white men don't run it, it's not authentic journalism is really outmoded and not a little bigoted.
Some of the best political writing in the country is coming from these venues. Step outside that white male box.

Folks love to use my writing for @HuffPost against me, but the fact is, HuffPost is a major news site with various off-shoots of women's, black, Latinx and queer voices and it is run at the top by a black lesbian. So maybe read them regularly in your news feed.
One of THE major problems with American media is that it is so skewed to white male center voices. We saw where that went in 2016--it led us to Trump. Reading more, not fewer, voices is essential.

And cue the Biden, Bernie and Harris stans who didn't like my rankings.
If you think Biden did as well as anyone else, he did not. Harris edged out Bernie specifically by addressing environmental racism & not treating audience members dismissively. Warren checked all the boxes.
I thought Bernie was very good--if you are actually following my live-tweeting you can see that. But Warren and Harris were better, specifically because they both relate better to actual humans, which matters. And their plans are doable AND progressive.

Yang had some radical ideas that were interesting. Klobuchar was solidly pragmatic. She was the centrist star. Biden sat, rarely finished a sentence, told stories about his past and got coached repeatedly by Cooper. No clear plan, no good reason to be anti-GND.

It was not a great day for the #LGBTQ community nor for their supporters and advocates at the #UMCGC2019 #gc2019.

The person I love most in the world is likely to have his life upended by whatever decision the delegates to the GC make.

This does not sit well.

1/
I had held out hope that the African & South American Conference delegations would seek to move beyond mere provincialism and instead would try to hold the denomination as a whole to a different and higher standard. A standard the outside world would be encouraged to emulate.

2/
That has not happened. Nor have the American Conference delegations been able to break away from the tribalism that can infect smaller allied groups within larger ecumenical bodies.

Thus, coalitions that would seek to demand better of itself have not been formed.

There is a racial divide on social media regarding #SurvivingRKelly
Most black folks I know have posted about the docuseries in the last few days (thankfully black people in my networks are expressing support of the victims of sexual abuse & coercion though their posts suggest to me that is not the case with their entire friends network)
In contrast, nearly all white folks I know are not even acknowledging the docuseries, the #RKelly conversation, nothing. This divide/contrast reminds me that white people are not required to know what’s happening to and among black folks.

The debate around @JoyAnnReid and any views she once held and then blogged about is deeply troubling to me, and for some reason, deeply personal.

First, most whole human beings, every single one of us, have held views in our past that today we would be embarrassed by.

A decade & more ago, blogs, for those who read them & those who wrote them (I was both) hardly felt like permanent records.

I know that seems silly now, but this truly is a different world than it was then.

And that world was even more different than the ten before that.

It is only in the last five years that we've begun to understand what these new technologies and modes of communications mean to our lives, and the implications are still being revealed on a daily basis.
