May 1990. Professor Kundanlal Ganjoo and his wife taken away from their home in Sopore and shot dead.
Kashmiri Hindus constituted 15 percent of Valley’s population in 1941. Comes down to 0.1 percent in 1991.
Bombay, 1990. Refugee Anita Raina, 23, recounts how she was told in Kashmir that if she continued to be in the state when Pakistanis came, she would have to become their “bahu” (daughter-in-law)
February 2000. Militants kill 3 Kashmiri Pandits in Anantnag, including an eight-year-old girl Anshu Raina and her father (Intifada, resistance, Azadi)
August 1984. Pakistan flags hoisted in many areas in Srinagar
Jan 1990. Yasin Malik and his accomplice shoot 4 IAF men in Srinagar. 18 families of airmen thrown out of their houses by landlords owing to militant threat.
July 1990. Militants fire at a truck (of course provided by Jagmohan!) carrying a family of Kashmiri Pandits, killing one. Another hanged in Kupwara. Retired professor shot dead in old Srinagar.
March 1990. A man flees from home after armed terrorists come to kill him. “I don’t know what has happened to my family there,” he says.
Apr 1982. Hurt over shooting at Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, rioters in Kashmir try to attack UN office, church, and burn and loot shops belonging to the minority community.
Dec 1964. British Foreign Office correspondence. A team of British geologists visiting Kashmir say an “astonishing” number of shopkeepers, hoteliers and other Muslims said quite openly that their sympathies lie with Pakistan.
Same report notes “communal feeling is running pretty high”. At the Tyndall-Biscoe school, a Muslim pupil recently attempted to murder a Hindu pupil (FYI @rwac48 )
