Labour sources say that its wrong to say there a shift here but suggest John McDonell was a little bit muddled (their phrase, not mine) in how he expressed himself
Labour insist no change in position...later in interview McDonnell clarifies that they would be 'confirming what the offer would be', ie he's talking about a renegotiated offer - which is not in conflict with 'credible leave'.
Labour spokswoman: “The Shadow Chancellor's position is entirely in keeping with Labour’s plan to negotiate a credible deal, which would then go back to the people to have the final say on whether they want to leave on these terms or remain in the EU."
Why does this matter?

McDonnell/Thornberry axis pushing for Lab policy that ensures no renegotiation after a GE & second ref where Lab votes remain

But some Corbyn allies still fighting for Lab led brexit renegotiation with EU after GE which Labour would back in 2 ref
Ie

Some of Jeremy Corbyn’s team want to avoid Labour being painted as an unambiguously remain supporting party in a general election

But many in shad cab want clarity that Labour is a remain supporting party

(Dominic Cummings wd also be delighted if vote Lab = vote remain)
