Still digesting the full horror of what’s just happened, and its implications. All I can conclude is this: Johnson is trying to whip up a popular frenzy against every single key democratic institution in this country. He wants them to thwart him so he can promise to break them.
He is saying he will break the law. He hopes that his increasingly extreme base will respond positively. Macho man Boris is going to give us what we want! Fuck those elitist bastards who are trying to stop him! Fuck parliament, fuck the law, fuck the courts!
Once he has fomented the revolution, he will pull back. Johnson doesn’t care enough about Brexit to go to jail for it. He’ll either request the extension or resign. But then he’ll have his cartoon enemy laid on a plate: the law, Parliament, the instruments of democracy itself.
This won’t be a people vs parliament election. It will be a people vs democracy election. Johnson wants to emulate every dictator in history: to turn the people on themselves in order to further the ambitions of a single individual. He must and will be stopped.
