New tonight: Given NYT has now made details on Russian spy public, I can now report additional info we had withheld. Asset had direct access to Vladimir Putin, including the remarkable ability to take photos of presidential documents, and had served US for more than a decade. 1/
2/Asset had risen to the highest levels of Russia’s national security infrastructure. US offered extraction months earlier during Obama administration, but asset refused. Asset’s information was crucial to IC assessment that Putin had directed election interference to favor Trump
This is based on Trump and Obama administration ofcials with direct knowledge.

As Putin again claims “no proof” of Russian responsibility for #MH17 shootdown, let’s recount the incontrovertible evidence as I lay out in #TheShadowWar

1- US satellite and radar data showed within hours that the missile was fired from inside Russian-controlled territory. 1/
2/ Blast pattern in cockpit and fuselage of plane corresponded to blast pattern of Russian BUK antiaircraft missile system - in front of and above target.
3/ Pieces of BUK missile were found inside the bodies of cockpit crew, along with pieces of windshield.
4/ Eyewitness accounts and photographs tracked the BUK missile and mobile launcher’s arrival in Russian-controlled territory hours before the attack and its departure hours after & subsequent return back inside Russia proper.

Folks, Republicans and Democrats, as you digest the President’s insistence he can and would accept information from foreign countries in an election, remember: information is the interference. It is the weaponizing of information. This is the core of what Russia did in 2016. 1/
2/ Case in point 1: Russian hackers stole DNC emails and then released those emails to hurt Clinton and help Trump. The stolen information was both the target and the weapon. And Russia maximized the impact by releasing said info around the DNC convention.
3/ Case in point 2: Russia stole John Podesta’s emails and then released them, as before, to damage Clinton and help Trump. The information was once again the target and the weapon. And the weapon was timed for maximum impact: released 29 minutes after the Access Hollywood tape.

As Americans, we should take a moment this morning to read the extremely dire warning Mueller issued yesterday about Russian interference in our elections. 1/
2/ "Russian intelligence officers who were part of the Russian military launched a concerted attack on our political system. The indictment alleges that they used sophisticated cyber techniques to hack into computers and networks used by the Clinton Campaign."
3/ "They stole private information, and then released that information through fake online and identities and through the organization Wikileaks. The releases were designed and timed to interfere with our election and to damage a presidential candidate."

Now that Russia drained Eastern Ukraine of 2 million Ukrainians and local resources, Putin proposes a “referendum” to Trump at Helsinki summit. Maybe Putin’s tired of funding the criminal fiefdoms his invasion established. I’ll never forget how they desecrated the ruins of MH17.
