While all of #medtwitter is comparing vaping deaths to gun deaths, I just wanted to point out that vape companies like Juul specifically marketed their products to children with fruity flavors and youthful advertising, and smoking was decreasing in kids every year before e-cigs.
E-cigs may be harm reduction for adult smokers, but they are absolutely not for nonsmoking kids. The e-cig companies knew exactly what they were doing: hooking kids to nicotine and their product.

It's cool to be all indignant about the hyperreaction to 6 deaths, but hundreds
of kids in ICUs on ventilators and a sharp increase in e-cig users (increasing nicotine use) is a side effect of the unregulated market.
Vaping vs smoking: magazine ad
Oh yeah! @juul is totally intended to be a smoking cessation product and not at all an object of desire and beauty. This is how all medical interventions are sold.
Hmmm... Informative antismoking advert.
Thanks vaping!! You're really helping!
Oh yeah, this is how medical devices launch.
And oh no, I've dipped my toe in the pro-vaping community again. Why do I do this to myself? All they do is insult, construct the world's poorest arguments, and generally waste my time. Note, however, how I don't respond to them.

Level: passive aggressive
Oh, and by the way, the same exact thing is happening with cannabis in legalized countries and states right now. Try going to a movie theatre in Canada now, see the ads before Spiderman
