This is a false claim by the Brexit Secretary - as the fact check by @FactCheck in the replies explains.
@FactCheck In short, 1.4 million is the number of *applications*, not the number of grants of status. And of those grants of status, some are for pre-settled status, not settled status.

Will @michaelgove's debunkers be along to correct his colleague's false claim about Brexit?

Johnson again falsely claiming to @Peston that EU would determine how long EU extension decision would last. Not challenged on the falsehood. Parliament could veto any extension of EU membership (other than to the date of 31/1/2020). For more details see my article (pinned tweet)

Why are services so neglected in #Brexit discussion? Because they are nebulous - but Brexit is likely to put frictional costs on services exports, just as it will on goods. And there is a way to quantify that /2
In the Northern Ireland context we particularly focus on goods/infrastructure because of the politics around the border issue and UK commitments not to bring back a hard border...but services will take a big hit in event of hard Brexit too. Just look at these numbers: /3

1/ As some readers may know, I did a lot of academic work on comparative intergovernmental relations, including how federal systems deal with ‘mega-constitutional’ issues like top-level constit reform. #Brexit is a mega-mega constit reform.
2/ Any mega-constit reform only happens effectively if it can be accepted as legitimate, by those unhappy with the outcome as well as those happy about it. That means the process by which it is reached is crucial. This is ‘loser’s consent’.
3/ Each side needs to know what it’s seeking and have broad support for its goals. It has to say what it means, and mean what it says. Clarity and consistency are key to getting a good outcome.

I talked to business lobby groups, Stephen Kelly from @ManufacturingNI fresh back from talks with Barnier. And bosses of big companies.

- all-UK in a temporary customs Union
- Northern Ireland only in Single Market for goods, via devolution
- no checks GB-NI

"#Brexit and EU agencies", our extensive look into third country relationships of the 36 EU agencies and how the UK might fit in.

Albeit largely technical, agencies will have huge implications on Brexit.

Five points stand out in particular:
First, Agencies matter. Like the customs union, they are a technical aspect of the EU, that works and was thus hardly discussed in the UK before #Brexit.
But they are important for single market, but also justice and home affairs.

UK gov thus has already asked to continue participation in selected agencies, in particular in sectors important to the UK economy, like aviation, chemicals or pharma.
