Pete Buttigieg said that 60-70% of what determines a child's success is not school but home. Couldn't agree more: teachers are critical, but in my case, my college professor parents immersed me in books and knowledge and entertained every scientific curiosity. That was decisive.
But most of all it was the dinner conversations about every conceivable topic, from science to economics, heated debates and Q&As that could go on for hours. Every opinion and topic was entertained, and my mom's wonderful cooking made me never want to stop talking. It was bliss.
And perhaps one thing that I remember more than anything else is my father's loud laughter and my parents' wonderful hospitality; there wasn't a week when we didn't have students or friends dropping in for dinner, even on weekdays. That only added to the sparkling conversation.
