Podcasting Steps 3 & 4: Editing and Publishing
Editing,

Here’s where I have to admit - I am pretty lazy. You can go down a rabbit hole with removing background noise, clicks and all that stuff. It is important, and certainly critical at a level where you’re getting your 1/
content out to 100,000s of people, it’s worth investing the extra 3-4 hours to get things refined. Having started out with the latter, I found it to be consuming too much of my time per episode. I’ve consciously made the decision to cut down on editing to a couple of key areas 2/
in an effort to keep editing time down and keep more regular content going out. Honestly, If you have good microphone quality and great content/conversations, I’ve found that people are willing to forgive some mouthclicks here and “umms” there. 3/
I would suggest that if you have intros/outros, save these as seperate audio files that you can just drag and drop them in to your file, match audio and export the master file a an mp3! 4/
Hosting/Publishing

Sign up to hosting site, which will house the audio files of your show. Importantly, this will give you your show slug and RSS feed that you will use to submit to itunes/spotify
Libsyn’s cheapest version is $5/month, which doesn’t give you a ton of space to 5/
house your files, but is a good starting point. After you register your account, you put your title, episode detail, artwork and audio files here and publish it! You can just use this link to direct listeners to, but if you want to reach a broader audience, getting your show 6/
on iTunes and Spotify will also help

Submitting to iTunes. itunesconnect.apple.com/login

Go to itunesconnect and sign in with your appleID. From here you can select podcasts where you will submit your podcast for approval. 7/
It’s probably best to have 2-3 episodes already “published” before you submit to iTunes so they can review your content. You will need your RSS feed from wherever you host your podcast. Libsyn is located in the destinations tab. You will be asked to validate the feed first. 8/
Once validated, you click submit to iTunes and within a few days, you should have your show up on iTunes! 9/
Submitting to Spotify podcasters.spotify.com

Jump on to podcasters for Spotify. Click on your dashboard. Down the bottom left, there should a link to add your podcast. Same process as above, grab your RSS feed from where your host and submit! 10/
There you go, you’ve gone from not having the podcast anywhere, to being a bonafide real deal on iTunes and Spotify!
