It's amusing seeing those who argue for the immediate removal of fuel subsidy also arguing against the 2.2% addition to VAT. You can't have it both ways.

Truth is there are a lot of tough decisions to be made and I articulated them in 👇 thread.

None of these decisions are easy and doing them at all has social, economic & political implications. But at least, we can all agree that we need to do 2 things: Cut Govt Expenditure and Increase Govt. Revenue. The challenge is not in the "what to do", it's in the "how to do it".
And it is in the "how" that we are likely not to find an alignment of thought. Because this is where our ideological differences with respect to how we view government, the market and the people will appear. What we can't afford to do however is "Nothing".

My sister got a call from the @gtbank customer care registered line 08039003900. The lady on the line quoted her kids account & said they wanted to link them to her own account so she should go to her internet banking to create a password via a link sent to her email. #ScamAlert
She was largely distracted on the call but said 'ok I'll check my mail'. On opening the mail, this was what she saw. The mail looked legit, it supposedly came from intops@gtbank.com, it quoted the Gtbank website and the customer care numbers. But it was a scam email. #ScamAlert
How are they able to do this? Technology. The ability to mask the true destination of the site via hyperlink. Same goes for the call. What saved my sister was just having that extra bit of skepticism. She decided to call the same customer care line they called her on and spoke...

(THREAD) A homicidal mental state is not a mental illness. This is why our laws hold persons accountable who act with homicidal intent whenever a mental illness does not account for that intent. Stigmatizing mentally ill people, unjustly, isn't helpful. The problem is "#Bigotry."
A "#Bigot" is a person who has a baseless bias (or baseless biases) against a group (or groups) of humans. By itself, bigotry is not harmless. It influences the way one speaks, acts, thinks, votes, and advocates. #BigotRhetoric is pernicious, insidious, and infectious.
Repeated exposure to #BigotRhetoric can literally alter how others perceive stimuli. They will inevitably begin to experience confirmation bias that reinforces and augments growing bigotry, in their minds. In any large groups of humans, some will have homicidal mental states.

As a combat veteran, someone who loves video games, and someone suffering from mental illness, I have a LOT to say about this. So buckle the fuck up. I don't have time to fucking sugar coat anything.
I'm a former Marine. I saw some pretty nasty fuckin' shit in Fallujah '04. We all did. I earned my combat action ribbon through numerous firefights and patrols in Fallujah, Mahmoudiyah, Zaidan, and Ramadi. Almost died for it.

I kind of want to talk about some new-to-me trends I’m noticing among Minneapolis Police and their “community policing” efforts. There’s a subtle shift I’m noticing.
I’m struggling to articulate this very particular nuance happening as I see it because on its face it’s a positive shift.
Ok so I work in a homeless shelter right? Calls to EMS and police are not a *daily* but certainly a common experience for me. I have to interface with this system more frequently than I would like given my personal politics, you know?

we’re on a bit of a delay this morning with the snow, but victim impact statements should be starting at 11am. the jury will hear from several victims, then the defense’s mitigation witnesses, before deliberating again on sentencing recommendations.
the jurors were starting to worry about the melting snow refreezing as it drops below freezing this evening, so they’ve asked to return tomorrow morning at 10am to continue sentencing deliberations. no decision tonight.
we heard four victim impact statements this morning and one mitigation witness for the defense after lunch. the victim impact statements were heart breaking. i have some complicated feelings about the psychologist’s testimony about fields’ case.

So the Thousand Oaks shooter was a Marine veteran whose neighbors claim had PTSD. I've seen a lot of talk about guns, veterans, and PTSD floating around today. As a Marine combat veteran who suffers from mental illness, I have thoughts.

Let's talk about PTSD.
First of all, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is not a prelude to committing murder, nor is mass murder a symptom of PTSD. People with PTSD are more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators.

Second, when people think PTSD, the first thing to come to mind for many are veterans. There's this idea that PTSD is an affliction almost exclusive to the military, which couldn't be further from the truth.

Let's look at actual facts.

Subsequent information on William Clyde Allen, the ricin threat dude, shows him to be a long-term crazy who also threatened Queen Elizabeth and the CIA.
We do not have anything REMOTELY approaching a coherent, principled, consistent approach to how we talk about gravely mentally ill people attacking politicians, and what they do or don't represent or how they are impacted by rhetoric.
