When the President of the United States views government as a business to personally profit from, and has spent his entire life using society to enrich himself, it’s not shocking when he betrays his country over and over and over again.
It’s a business. A corrupt one. He operates like the CEO of a crooked, transnational corporation. People like him who have no operating standard beyond personal enrichment should never come anywhere near offices of power.
People still treat this like a normal presidency, like just because Trump got elected it means there’s a sense of duty or loyalty because it’s a position we associate with duty and loyalty. He’s a crooked businessman. He doesn’t think of the country or its people.
And, at its heart, this is the big problem. People covering this presidency can’t wrap their heads around the idea that a president might run counter to their perception of what a president MUST be. They’re still looking at the office and missing the bigger picture.
Call it what it is. There’s a man in the White House who is dangerously incompetent and dangerously unmoored by duty. This is not a president who cares about this country or its people. The country is his money till and we’re all marks to exploit.
