To #Mallaig on the #WestHighlandLine on a glorious day! 10 and a half hours there and back, but all that sitting made up for by some of the best scenery in Europe.

1. Outskirts of Glasgow. It gets better, I promise...
2. Dumbarton Rock, capital of Yr Henn Ogledd, The Old North, comes into view.
(Especially for @holland_tom)
@holland_tom 3. Turning north at Helensburgh we leave the Firth of the Clyde to start climbing.
@holland_tom 4. Gairlochhead.
@holland_tom 5. High above the upper reaches of Loch Long. There's Ardgartan across the water.
@holland_tom 6. Arrochar.
@holland_tom 7. Loch Lomond stretches away into the sun and Mr Dog changes trains at Ardlui.
@holland_tom 8. Approaching #Crianlarich, where there's a Big Yellow Machine lurking.
@holland_tom 9. The front carriages have now left us to take the #Oban branch over the other side of this valley.
@holland_tom 10. I can assure you that this view goes well with listening to Handel...
11. Approaching Bridge of Orchy.
12. Loch Tulla passes by.
13. The glory that is Rannoch Moor.
The glory that is Rannoch Moor, continued...
14. Corrour in the middle of Rannoch Moor.
15. One last bit of the Moor, then down to Loch Treig.
16. Downhill over the Spean towards Fort William and between me and the sun rises Ben Nevis, highest mountain in the British Isles.
17. Away from Ben Nevis and into the West along Loch Eil.
18. Glenfinnan.
19. Loch Eilt hidden away in the hills.
20. The Sea! In the form of Loch nan Uamh.
21. Islands appear on the approach to Arisaig. Mull, Rhum and Eigg I think?
22. Morar Bay, with its white sands, flashes by.
23. And so to #Mallaig, with islands omnipresent, and a much desired pint of Clachain Light at the Clachain. Skye in the distance.

In two hours or so I'm doing it all again in reverse.
Hmm. Another pint?
Or a walk around the harbour?

After due consideration, I think both.
24. Photos through a small gap heading south at sunset (the windows themselves on this train are filthy).
My goodness. Beauty is tiring.
That second picture is the islet of Eilean na Moine. Apparently it was used as Dumbledore's grave in one of the Potter films.
