NFL talent is by definition better than CFB talent, but on every other conceivable measure college football beats the hell out of the NFL.
When I moved to Chicago people asked me if I was a Bears or Packers fan, and my response was "I don't give a shit, I only follow college FB."

That said, I fully support CFB players being paid, as long as they are genuine academically eligible students. If programs are able to afford an $8 million per year head coach, then they can afford to pay the athletes minimum wage.
Chicago actually is kind of a CFB town, there are probably 2 dozen game day Iowa bars, and ditto for Wisconsin, Michigan, etc. It just isn't reflected in local media, which basically only covers Notre Dame
