We really need to drop the fallacy that D behavior “allows” Trump to make claims he wouldn’t otherwise. He’s an inveterate liar who will portray Ds in the worst light he can invent no matter what. He already falsely claims exoneration. He already labels everything partisan.
If Trump cottons onto the (insane, imo) notion that being impeached and acquitted is politically beneficial to him, then he will *say* he was impeached and acquitted whether he was or wasn’t. And his diehard base will probably believe it.
If Trump comes to believe that not being impeached is the better look for a president, then he’ll probably say he wasn’t really impeached even if he really was. And his diehard base will probably believe it.
...So stop worrying about what he’ll say and just do the right thing.
