One of consequence of being in the political wilderness is that you form coalitions wherever you can find them. It's tactically sound, but over time it can end up understating or even effacing genuine ideological differences.
When you suddenly find formerly fringe ideas competing for power, that can be a problem. Seems to me this is very much playing out across the American left right now.
The Democratic Party has been committed to neoliberal ideas for a long time, and in what was (until recently) the relative wilderness on the left a lot got collapsed into catch-all labels like "progressive". In many ways that's now become very unhelpful.
I think a debate about the respective merits, ideas, and strategies of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren could be a very constructive one. But we can't have it if people refuse to grapple with how they're different in the first place.
