Caste Based Reservation in India Started in 2nd Century BC. In #Manusmriti - the law book of Brahmins all the laws were based on #Caste and no Merit was ever considered. It divided people into High & Low Castes on the basis of their birth and not on the basis of Merit.

Wealth, Political power, Spiritual leadership, Education, Ownership of Land, Trade and all lucrative aspects were reserved purely to the higher castes. This system of caste based discrimination entrenched in day today social life since ages.

As Large section of the society was historically denied right to property, education, business and civil rights since ages because of the practice of untouchability & discrimination. The policy of reservations is being used as to overcome discrimination exercise.

First of all please understand that it is not at all reservation.
The appropriate word for it used in the Indian constitution is #Representation. It is not given to anyone in his individual capacity. It is given to individual as a representative of the underprivileged community.

Only the political reservations (seats reserved in Loksabha, Vidhansabha, etc) were to be reserved for 10 years and the policy review was to be made after that.The 10 year limit for reservations is not applicable for the reservations in education and employments.

Before 2019, the #Reservation was provided on the basis of social backwardness / #caste. However, after the 103rd constitutional amendment in 2019, #economic backwardness is also considered.

Even with economic reservations, #Caste #reservations are necessary too. Caste discremination exists, it's real. Irrespective of economic inequality,it is social/Caste inequality on which discrimination happens. Pl note that #Reservation is not a poverty alleviation scheme.

If someone says that Specific period to be fixed for reservation, then these guys need to reply why even after 70 years of independence, #Dalit/ #Bahujan still face discrimination at every stage of their life ??? #RohithVemula #Una #PayalTadvi #Saharanpur #BhimaKoregaon

If someone says Reservation divides the society, then they need to answer Whether your Caste System unites it ? No it is not uniting instead it is propogating discrimination on the basis of castes !
