I think Al Gore's comparison between current climate movement to nuclear freeze movement in the 1980s is quite astute. That movement was widely mocked as unserious or hysterical etc by people who were (falsely) infatuated with their own seriousness.
But the freeze movement accomplished something that was as civilizationally important as almost anything at the time: they created the conditions to revese the logic of the nuclear arms race and helped move Reagan 180 degrees on arms control.
It's the nature of these things that all the people who were wrong never actually admit it or pay the price and we'll be lucky if that's where we end up with climate.
