Boris Johnson's shutting down Parliament so that he would be in control of the only active branch of government was just declared unlawful by the highest court in the land.
What do we call an unlawful seizure of absolute political power?
Last night Boris Johnson said that our MPs were "holding the public captive" because they were blocking a version of Brexit that NOBODY WAS ASKING FOR WHEN THEY VOTED.
And yet we have people trying to claim the two uses of language are equal to each other.
Coup wouldn't have been my first choice as they are typically violent. But we do have a prime minister who is willing to break the law in order to seize control.
Alarm is appropriate.

I don't know how much more simply I can say this:
You can't campaign to stop the Brexit we've negotiated then accuse those who want to stop No-Deal Brexit of thwarting the will of the people!
Either Leave just Means Leave or it doesn't!
Either the Brexit vote came with a set of conditions based on the promises made in 2016, or any Brexit will do, in which case you wouldn't have campaigned to stop the Brexit deal.
The hypocrisy is **** UNREAL!
We cannot keep going round in circles like this! ⬇️

If the language used by both sides was equal...
Johnson says MPs are "holding the public hostage", so is it OK to say when he prorogued he was "knocking out MPs"?
(Below) Is it OK to say prorogation is putsch 1, refusing to extend putsch 2, then he'll go to jail and write a book?
My point: Stop pretending the language used by the politicians on both sides is equal. He's giving out a hell of a lot worse than he's getting.
Boris Johnson has been leading the Leave side for 3 years and accusing those who oppose him of betrayal.
It's no coincidence that the men who chucked their drink on me and poked me in the face with a flag pole were screaming "F***ing traitor!"

While waiting for flight I thought I'd investigate the observation by @JohnJCrace and others that many Leavers who insisted #parliament prorogation was nowt to do with Brexit then decried yesterday's Supreme Court ruling to quash it as an attack against Brexit & democracy itself
Turns out there are hundreds of Twitter accounts who enacted this turnaround, unearthed by a simple search on the words "prorogued every year", as that's what they all said when Boris did it: "It happens every year don't it - as if it's got anything to do with Brexit this time!"
Let's start with @MarnieRiptide who once explained to @StevePeers & others that it's a yearly thing, specifically
for conferences/Queen's speech - "Do your research!"

But as of yesterday it was suddenly all about "postponing Brexit" and nothing else. What happened there Marny
