NEW: City Hall says the "monitoring officer" has recorded a "conduct matter" against Boris Johnson after allegations he had a friendship with Jennifer Arcuri which allowed her to participate in trade trips and receive sponsorship 1/
MORE: The now PM has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct because as Mayor he was also responsible for policing and crime. This does NOT mean the allegations are proven. IOPC will now decide if an investigation for misconduct in public office is needed 2/
MORE: This is the text of the letter sent to the PM by the GLA Monitoring Officer setting out the allegations and why the threshold for a referral has been met.
MORE: Boris Johnson has denied any impropriety and said earlier in the week that the GLA was "barking up the wrong tree". However the PM said he would co-operate with his "old friends on the Assembly".

This doesn’t look great
NEW: Boris Johnson says he didn't take part in the news conference because it wouldn't have been fair on the Luxembourg PM, as they would both have been drowned out by the protests.
So it seems the UK govt asked for the press conference to be moved inside as the location outside was surrounded by loud protests.

Luxembourg rejected that saying there were "technical issues" and went ahead with it outside with two podiums.

Some people smell a stitch up 🤔

NEW: PM's Official Spokesperson on UK solutions to the backstop:

"We’ve brought to the table a number of areas where workable solutions can be found to remove the backstop including the all-Ireland Sanitary/Phytosanitary solution".

So the govt believes it has verbally (at least) put forward specific solutions to the EU. However they are not publishing them or putting them on paper yet. As Foreign Sec has previously suggested, this appears to (partly) be to avoid the chance of the EU shooting them down.

Boris Johnson is what happens when the cult of the individual is allowed to dominate and crush everything in its path for 40 years. The cult of greed, selfishness, entitlement; the cult of not giving a shit and being admired, celebrated, for not giving a shit.
"Oh ha ha ha he's so hilarious! You can't help but like him!" Tell that to the women he's treated like dirt, the journalist he tried to have beaten up, or above all, to Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.
This cult has become so pervasive that most of the governing party, sections of the Labour right and much of the media really believes that politics is a game. In other words, like Boris, they don't give a shit either. Why would they? The world's rewarded them for not doing so.
