There is really no reason why people who believe right-wing nonsense should appear on cable panels or have op-ed columns to have their point of view represented. Instead, properly-trained journalists should be assigned to follow right-wingers and report on what they are saying.
Why should a mainstream newspaper feel it needs to present unvarnished propaganda as a legitimate point of view? Wouldn't it be better to present right-wing viewpoints in a context where they are factchecked and subjected to analysis and verification?
There is no market demand for right-wing points of view because right-wingers never read or subscribe to publications such as the New York Times or Washington Post. It's just a burden on those who do subscribe to have to wade through and subsidize crap like Hugh Hewitt's.
During the civil rights struggle, did the New York Times or Washington Post publish any pro-segregation op-ed articles? Maybe, but they sure didn't run them twice a week and pay a columnist big bucks to write them. Walter Cronkite didn't invite them on CBS to share their views.
