I think repeal of every Trump executive order should be the first order of business on January 20, 2021. Republicans must be forced to get laws passed if they want their policies to last for the long-term. EO's are undemocratic when they go beyond the law.
Of course, they also pass bad laws--see the 2017 tax give-away--but the threshold is higher.
The second order of business should be to fill every single political slot in the entire government on the same day if possible. The work of undoing every shitty thing Trump appointees have done will be hard and take time. An early start is essential.

As I watch Trump's increasingly treasonous activities, I am reminded of A.J.P. Taylor's "Origins of the Second World War." He recounts all the occasions when Hitler's enemies, inside and outside Germany, missed opportunities to stop him until it was too late.
His enemies always thought that if they gave him a little more rope he would hang himself. By the time they realized that wasn't going to happen, Hitler was too powerful and his enemies were sucked in too deep to get out.
It's not a violation of Godwin's Law to observe that one thing Trump and Hitler had in common is extraordinary luck. Also, incompetent enemies when they were weak enough to be stopped at relatively small cost.

@NYTLiz One problem with mainstream journalists is their stubborn unwillingness to admit that Breitbart is not a legitimate news source and therefore undeserving of the privileges of being treated with anything but contempt.
@NYTLiz Elite journalists have a circle-the-wagons mentality when it comes to protecting freedom of the press. When the media is attacked by government, that is appropriate. But it leaves the media vulnerable to corruption from within by faux media that is just propaganda.
@NYTLiz Journalists know perfectly well that rich people often buy media outlets or set up their own for the sole purpose of blocking inquiries into their own misbehavior, personal ambition, propaganda etc. But these fake media still offer jobs that reporters need. So, no criticism.

I see that @LHSummers is concerned about the impotence of monetary policy in the current macro environment. Maybe I'm just an old-fashioned Keynesian, but I don't think fiscal policy has really yet been mobilized.
@LHSummers One problem is that economists focus too much on the deficit without examining how the deficit is used. Fiscal policy needs to stimulate SPENDING to work--either through private consumption or business investment in capital goods.
@LHSummers The reality is that tax cuts don't stimulate spending because the people who would spend the additional income don't pay income taxes and investors are not buying capital goods, but engaging in share buybacks.

#FDR promoted the idea that the people of the world, in all nations, shared entitlement to four freedoms: that of the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of worship, the freedom from want and the freedom from fear.
#FDR is arguably one of the most 'successful' #US Presidents. Some would argue that on the basis of his numerous social policies such as 'the New Deal'. Others, however, would argue that his role during the second world war was more prevalent to his success & everlasting legacy.
