Thread: St. Therese of Lisieux resources and recommended reading.
This is THE website for St. Therese information. It is the official archive of the Lisieux Carmel. You'll find photos, her writings (and scans of the originals), items that she used, books. Just absolutely amazing.

Another excellent website, run by Theresian scholar Maureen O'Riordan. It is just loaded with information.

The first book recommendation is not "Story of a Soul". I actually recommend reading this little biography by translator John Beevers first. It is one of my favorites.

St. Therese The Little Flower

There are two versions, and numerous translations, of Story of a Soul. The original release, compiled and heavily edited by Mother Agnes (Pauline), and Fr. John Clarke's version which is a direct translation of Therese's original, unedited manuscripts.
For the original release of The Story of a Soul (Mother Agnes' edited version) I really like this translation.

It is worth buying just to read John Beevers' introduction!

This is also a good translation, and includes a lot of other writings (letters, poems, prayers, etc.).

The Complete Therese of Lisieux (Paraclete Giants) amazon.com/dp/1557256705/…
For the Fr. Clarke version of the original manuscripts, I like this study edition. It contains lots of extra information between each chapter to give background and context.

And of course, the regular edition.

Story of a Soul: The Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux (the Little Flower) [The Authorized English Translation of Therese's Original Unaltered Manuscripts] amazon.com/dp/0935216588/…
Another excellent biography of St. Therese by noted Theresian scholar, Bishop Guy Gaucher of the diocese of Bayeaux-Lisieux.

Saint Thérèse of Lisieux: Story of a Life amazon.com/dp/1621642984/…
To fully understand the excruciating illness St. Therese endured, I recommend another of Bishop Gaucher's books. (NB: This book isn't for the faint of heart, it gives many graphic details of a horrific illness).

This is an outstanding book by Fr. Charles Connor based on his @EWTN series:
The Saint for the Third Millennium: St Therese of Lisieux amazon.com/dp/0818912448/…
The video isn't available, but you can listen to the audio by searching for "Therese of Lisieux" at @EWTN audio library. You have to use that search term and then look for Saint for the Third Millennium in the results. Sorry no way to link directly to it.

The Chaplet of St. Therese. I made this one, it has a vintage medal with St. Therese on one side and St. Christopher on the other side. It was blessed with her relics.

Instructions to pray the chaplet:

And a good place to buy a St. Therese Chaplet is the Society of the Little Flower @SocLittleFlower

Much of St. Therese's spirituality is contained in her letters. She wrote so much more than just Story of a Soul.

Letters of St. Therese of Lisieux, Vol. II amazon.com/dp/0935216103/…
And of course in the last months when St. Therese could no longer write, her sister Pauline (Mother Agnes) recorded her conversations in the "yellow notebook", which was later published.

This is a great little devotional book. It can be read entirely online for free, and the Kindle book is very inexpensive.

This is an audible audiobook of John Beevers' translation of Story of a Soul. The narrator does a great job.

The Autobiography of Saint Therese of Lisieux: The Story of a Soul amazon.com/dp/B004C5POR8/…
This is a free audiobook of Story of a Soul. The narration is good, but it is not my favorite translation. There isn't anything wrong with Taylor's translation per se, I just think Beevers' is more comprehensible.

The two books (other than scripture) that St. Therese said influenced her the most were "The Imitation of Christ", and "The End of the Present World".

Here is my favorite translation of The Imitation of Christ:

St. Therese said "Reading this book was one of the greatest graces of my life!"

End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life amazon.com/dp/1933184388/…
Here are some great talks on St. Therese by Bishop Patrick Ahern, along with some other great audio.
