This Elastic lawsuit against AWS is… something.

I feel for Elastic; after Amazon entered their market they were barely able to raise another $58 million and take themselves public—wait.
Elastic claims they didn’t partner with AWS to make Amazon’s ElasticSearch product.

Probably true; if they did then they’ve committed securities fraud; their S-1 explicitly states: “We do not partner with Amazon”
Elastic’s lawsuit:
“Amazon’s wrongful activities have caused Elastic irreparable injury. “

Elastic’s CEO on the earnings call last month:
This entire nonsense could have been avoided if @awscloud had banged two neurons together to yield a single spark of naming creativity and called it “RubberBandSearch” instead.

Ever notice that "spend company money like it's your personal money" is dogshit advice steeped in privilege? It leads to people feeling guilty, and that's awful.
I don't see folks sharing their corporate expense policies in public very often, so I'll buck that trend.
To be very clear, attorneys see some issues with this policy, but true story: lawyers work for the business and implement business asks. This is our fault, not counsel's.

As the #WhyTheyCantWrite slow chat winds down I wanted to highlight some of the books that proved so useful to me as I worked on the book. These are in no particular order, but they're all recommended.
I'm going to use Amazon links because they're easiest to access, but I urge people to use their local booksellers, libraries, etc to access these books if possible.
"Air and Light and Time and Space" by Helen Sword. This is good to help reflect on one's writing process, but it's also interesting to see the conditions under which academics work and contrast them with the circumstances under which students often work. amazon.com/Air-Light-Time…

I need non-native people to support native people & talk abt colonialism & confront anti-indigenous attitudes & rhetoric as openly as they talk about racism 100% the rest of the time when our trauma isn’t being trotted out to prove the horrific shit we go through.
It’s constantly demanded that Native trauma be performed and anti-native violence be documented and then validated by non-natives in order to be considered real or worthwhile. We’re not ndn if you don’t think we’ve suffered adequately enough for your taste.
The violence is happening anyway. This shit happens anyway. Has been happening. In border towns. Online when ppl gang up on ndns to bully them into silence. At sporting events, like those that utilize genocidal mascots. When non-natives purposefully erase our existence.
