Top tip. If you call it "A fair and reasonable compromise" the other side in a negotiation are inevitably going to think it won't be anywhere near acceptable.

Now, if you're aiming for a domestic audience on the other hand...
The DUP veto on regulatory alignment in Ireland is obviously their price for all-Ireland regulations, but is a problem, no customs union and no checks equally, VAT is problematic. So is any of that negotiable is or is it take it or leave it?
The DUP get a veto on continued regulatory alignment and if they exercise it then what? Border? From every conversation I have had here about Ireland this is an incredibly careless and short-sighted proposal. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…
If you want to set up an export import business I'd certainly recommend doing so in Ireland if this proposal was accepted. Spectacular opportunities for smuggling and fraud. Which is of course why the proposals will not be accepted.
Anyway, as predicted this is the Alternative Arrangements Commission proposals (plus a bit of extra regulatory alignment) and not a Northern Ireland only backstop. Now if only we had a clue three months ago as to the EU's view...
Did anyone in the UK Government bother to ask any other Northern Ireland party whether the plan was acceptable to them? One suspects not. Utterly irresponsible.
VAT a particular issue in these proposals
A remarkable statement which appears not to notice that Northern Ireland would in fact remain in the EU single market, still less the DUP just gave themselves the power to reject an agreement even once the UK and EU agreed it
At least with these proposals the UK government properly consulted with one domestic constituency, the DUP. But unfortunately not with many others, and their doubtless hard won agreement with the DUP is unacceptable to others.
And another good thread on the proposals. It would be fair to say the universal expert view is no chance of EU accepting as is, don't know but sceptical whether even the basis for negotiations
Beginning to look like it will be easy for the EU to turn down these proposals by pointing out the view from the island or Ireland
Think this is where I sum up today's UK Brexit proposals. Clearly not acceptable on customs / VAT / DUP veto, but EU will see UK concession on Northern Ireland in the single market as a little more progress. But will ask "is that it?"
And finally for now, the EU respond exactly as predicted - we'll consider, but the GFA and customs parts are problematic.
Adding an expert opinion to what was already too long a thread on the new Brexit proposal. But it would be fair to say the reaction has been pretty poor from a lot of people
