Here's what's particularly galling about Trump's rage-tweet that the impeachment inquiry is a "COUP."

The House has the impeachment power precisely because, as the people's most direct representatives, they can exercise that power most legitimately:

Trump's actual position:

* Trump is declaring the power to engage in bottomless corruption to prevent a legitimate election from removing him

* Trump is also declaring that any effort to impeach him for those corrupt acts is inherently illegitimate

A point worth stressing:

Bill Taylor said:

"AS I SAID ON THE PHONE, I think it’s crazy to withhold security assistance for help with a political campaign."

So there were other discussions of the military aid/quid pro quo we still need to know about:

One other thing: Taylor and Sondland spoke the day before. Taylor then texted:

"The nightmare is they give the interview and don't get the security assistance. The Russians love it."

Taylor may be describing what would happen if the US *didn't* make good on the quid pro quo:
One interpretation, then, is that Taylor and Sondland argued on the phone over the fact that the military aid was conditioned.

The next day, Taylor reiterated his concerns, stressing that the aid was the prize for political help.

It's worth appreciating just how much *worse* this scandal could get for Trump -- and for Pence.

It's perfectly plausible Dems will *win* some coming court battles, which would secure a *lot* more info about the Ukraine scandal.

I gamed it all out:

Here's another angle on Mike Pence's role.

It's weird that Pence aides are furiously distancing him from the idea that smearing Biden was the goal of the pressure on Ukraine, given that Trump says his entire call with the Ukraine president was "perfect":

Another thing:

Because this scandal involves Trump trying to corrupt the 2020 election, and suggests he'll keep trying to use government to rig it in his favor, Dems can argue that the courts should rule faster on subpoenas for Ukraine-related info:

This new whistleblower "scandal" that Trump is drumming up is complete nonsense.

It is not "fodder" for any legitimate attack, and we are not required to pretend it is, simply because Trumpworld is making a lot of noise about it.

It also needs to be said that it was ridiculous of the NYT to say, in its neutral, on-high editorial voice, that this fake scandal will "thrust" Schiff into "controversy," without saying whether that's legitimately or validly deserved (which it isn't):

One more point.

What NYT story really shows is how serious the whistleblower thought his discovery was, and how urgently he wanted to get it to Congress.

Given that top Trump officials tried so hard to block that from happening, this was proven right!

Mueller’s report describes a consistent effort by the president to use his office to obstruct or otherwise corruptly impede the Russian election interference investigation because it put his interests at risk.
The president has an obligation not to violate the public trust, including using official powers for corrupt purposes. For instance, presidents have the authority to nominate judges, but a president couldn’t select someone to nominate because they’d promised the president money.
This principle extends to all the president’s powers, including the authority over federal investigations, federal officials, and pardons.

Just 5 weeks after Mueller extended his Trump-Russia grand jury for 6 months—and just days after we learned Mueller has subpoenaed a Cambridge Analytica executive—a certain MSNBC reporter is implying Mueller's report is already done and was submitted to the Department of Justice.
1/ Here's my take on that: someone at Justice who's not in the know—and may be a Trump partisan—is leaking things to this MSNBC reporter to put pressure on Mueller to hurry up. But there's a second possibility, which is that there *is* such report—but it's *not the final report*.
2/ Long, long ago, we had a conversation here on the feed about whether the authorization letter that initiated the Mueller probe permits anything other than a final report. I speculated at the time that perhaps Mueller would want to issue a status report, but might be unable to.
