We're almost certainly not leaving the EU on October 31st. Sorry for those businesses once again spending money preparing for something that was never much more than a 50:50 shot. Government communications have been irresponsible.
Still think the Conservatives manifesto on Brexit will not be obvious - claim they can get a deal after three years of not doing so, losing votes to Brexit Party, or go for no-deal and lose votes of those opposed to that
Agree that the ask for an extension is because team Johnson think they can win an election. But of course recall that he is an optimist...

I have never believed that the only two options for a UK EU relationship are no deal or membership, even given what we know of red lines. I still don't, and would happily be involved in any discussion or exercise on realistic options.
Perhaps the time has passed for constructive Brexit proposals. But if we leave without a deal we'll need to restart the discussion, not least as rejoining would not be straight forward. So why not now, before we go through a damaging Brexit in terms of politics and economics
I'm not expecting a more constructive Brexit narrative any time soon. It's a major failure of UK politics and the wider ecosystem which includes me. It doesn't have to be like this and I have to keep hoping that one day...

Did Merkel really say Northern Ireland would have to stay in the EU Customs Union to get a deal? I suspect it was more nuanced but this suits the UK government narrative
This looks like the Number 10 line that has been building for a while. EU conditions make a deal impossible. I'm sceptical, not least as saying Northern Ireland has to be I the EU CU forever would be a hardening of EU lined.

The actual EU line is probably that there is no current realistic solution to avoiding a Northern Ireland border without Customs Union, but we can work on one. Requiring trust that isn't there hence guarantees. UK not prepared to negotiate on this basis.

Everything @hayward_katy says, plus technology cannot be the answer to fundamental questions of identity and trust. Answer those questions first, then see what arrangements can be put in place to support what emerges

Never have I ever hated #Aadhar and the ruling government this much in my life.

As I was filling details at the hospital for my sister's death certificate, a nurse consoled me and asked for her Aadhar card for identification.

I told the nurse that I have her driving license with me. But no, they want only Aadhar.

In times like these, you don't know where you are, let alone remembering where you kept all the ID cards.

My sister's death was sudden, so we had access only to her phone. My mum couldn't remember where she kept her Aadhar card.

The hospital or the cremation ground people do not accept any other ID cards. It was literally a huge struggle in finding her Aadhar.

We both had that "entrepreneurial mindset"

Both wanted to start our own biz's

Both wanted freedom

So I told him I was planning on dropping out and starting my own business online

He said
That's dumb dude

You need the experience first

How are you gonna start a business with no experience?

I'm gonna graduate, get a job, save up some money, then start something in my 30s

Much more likely to be successful that way
I told him yeah, you're probably right

And we left it at that

Had my plan changed?

No

I just wasn't going to try to convince him of my dreams

I feel like driving up some controversy, so how about a thread of Hot Takes/Unpopular Opinions! You know the drill, one like = one take/opinion.

Start easy: the blunt awkwardness/cringe of 'Blurryface' is the point of taking the piss out of Tyler. I stand by my light 9/10.
2. I don't hate Nickelback's 'Dark Horse' - it's easily a record for them at their most tasteless, but the frat-bro swagger of it helps some of their better hooks.
3. 'Fireflies' by Owl City is a genuinely terrific song that captures precocious, starry-eyed wonderment better than few others in the 2000s.

It is SPECTACULARLY lame, but that's why it works.
