This too is as radical as it gets. It would make it illegal for Christians to attempt to convert certain kinds of sinners to Christ. Why? /1
Because these laws don't just ban conversion therapy. They ban ANY attempt to help same-sex attracted people follow Christ. They want to treat any such attempts as "torture."

To put this in practical terms: If your pastor counsels a teenager in your church to repent of homosexual sin and to follow Christ, Beto wants to treat that as "torture" because it's indistinguishable from what he calls "conversion therapy."

The irony is that Beto treats attempts to convert sinners to Christ as "torture," but he treats blocking hormones and destructive surgeries as noble and good.

Beto O'Rourke calls for Christian churches to lose their tax-exempt status unless they endorse gay marriage. This draconian assault on the first amendment is now the MAINSTREAM view within the Democratic party. /1
This could bankrupt many churches and religious institutions because it would dissuade contributions. Many churches would lose their property as a result of being unable to pay property taxes--especially in big cities. This is truly draconian and unconstitutional. /2
It means that we have an entire political party that is directly arrayed against Christian churches that remain faithful to Christ... for now. I do not foreclose the possibility that the other party could eventually go the same route. /3

@tim_fall Within the SBC (especially at places like the school where I teach), egalitarians were largely known for denying inerrancy. That’s just an historical fact that shapes the conversation in the SBC. /1

@tim_fall Of course in the wider evangelical world, there are egalitarians who formally affirm inerrancy. Folks like Roger Nicole and Millard Erickson, for example, are prime examples. /3

In the year 2000, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) made complementarianism a part of its foundation for cooperation by including the doctrine in The Baptist Faith and Message 2000. Two additions to the BF&M are worth noting. /1
Article VI on “The Church”: “Its scriptural officers are pastors and deacons. While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture.”

I am one of many Tulsi Gabbard’s LGBT supporters. It’s been incredibly frustrating to hear straight people tell me that I cannot support her because of her anti-gay past and that it’s bad for our community. This is blatantly false and spits in the face of LGBT progress. Thread.
Before I get into Gabbard’s past, and the importance of her transition, let’s take a look at her record in Congress. For her entire career in Congress, she’s been a staunch advocate for the LGBT community and has a 100% legislative rating from the Human Rights Campaign.
She cosponsored the Equality Act, which protects LGBT people from discrimination, HR.1244, amending to make sure all taxpayer provisions apply to same-sex couples, HR.197, the Respect for Marriage Act which repeals DOMA, and HR.1755, the Employment non-discrimination Act.
