Want to be great at code? JavaScript? React? Web Development?

Heck, even more – want to be better at life? Successful? Happy?! Do not give up and consistently practice!

But how do you keep going? You need to be a little bit delusional – and optimistic. (1/8)
Research (ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…) shows that the key to perseverance/grit is to have "child-like" belief that you kinda sorta maybe can do it, even against your biases and voices that say you can't.

This applies to everything – fixing a hard bug, or making new friends. (2/8)
It's the mindset of "I think I can, I think I can" that ultimately makes you succeed. (3/8)
In his paper, Seligman mentions "flexible optimism" with most low-risk (read: NON life/death things) in life. What's the worst that could happen?

With a little bit of delusion, even if things seem unrealistic, we can get an impressive amount of stuff done. (4/8)
This study is so fascinating! It shows that "realism" actually leads us to be less optimistic and achieve less in life and ultimately leads to pessimism – which kills perseverance/grit and we end up kinda mediocre. Even worse – amplified pessimism is really just depression. (5/8)
"What's the point? It'll go wrong anyway." – pessimism.
"What's the point of living..." ...yeah.

I've always been delusionally optimistic (with moderation) and, through it, I've been able to persevere against all odds and really enjoy my life. () (6/8)
Here's to being child-like, y'all. I don't ever want to "grow up". I think Picasso said it best:

"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." (7/8)
I love you all very much. (8/8)
