Apologies, but I'm not particularly moved by billionaires arguing against investing in healthcare and education and infrastructure and basic human dignity because they might have fewer billions of dollars.
And, while we're at it, let's stop talking about taxes as if they're penalties and not citizens paying their fair share of the cost of conducting a shared and operating society. That was a rhetorical trick operated by Republicans, and it's done unbelievable damage.
Part of the problem is we talk about billions of dollars without putting it into context. How about, when talking about the amount of money someone like Bezos or Gates or Bloomberg would be taxed, we put the figure in terms of schools funded?
Because when you just put taxes in cash terms, you lose perspective. Trump skipping out on his share of taxes sounds like a victory, but when you frame it as his shorting the futures of children and damning citizens to shorter lives...it makes a difference.
