1. This graph is from my Baze University student portal. It shows my GPA per semester on a scale of 0 - 4. I did 8 semesters, having started from 200 level, as direct entry. But, beyond showing my grades, the graph depicts my bumpy ride to a 1st Class degree in Law.

Follow me...
2. At the time I started the Law program, I was going through the most difficult phase of my life. As you can see, I had the lowest GPA at that time. At some point, giving up became an option; perhaps, it'd satisfy those that labelled me an irresponsible career woman.
3. Save for two close friends who defiantly cracked through my walls, I kept to myself the deep depression that had become my reality.
4. Then, one of those mornings, which was a culmination of a very rough sleepless night, a day I'd decided not to go to school, I saw this note slipped through my bedroom door. It was from my daughter, who was about 9 years old at the time. I cried like a child after reading it.
5. Thereafter, I dressed up and went to school, with my eyes swollen and head aching. I could only meet remaining half of the last lecture. But, that day, I told myself I have nothing to prove to anyone but God; while I make Damilola proud, and inspire girls to never dance to the

8. Though, I still had rough times in between and it still affected my grades (in fact, I almost deferred in 500 level); but each time, I will bring out this note from my purse, read it, pray, clean my tears, shake off, and continue.
9. So, that I finished this Law degree with a First Class wasn't without deep personal challenges that almost crashed me. Now you'd understand when I say my gratitude is deep... it is from a deep realization that if it had not been for God who pulled me close,
10. helped me through, and blessed my efforts, this wouldn't have been possible. For this, and more, I will always be grateful.
11. Therefore, this first class Law degree is dedicated to 11-year-old Oluwadamilola Shonibare, who held my hand and heart, and loved me through all. For her, and every girl out there, this dream was valid and this journey is worthy.
12. Now, on to more. Unapologetically. Uninhibitedly.

The story continues.
