Thread.
I am trying to recap what just happened with #MedicareForAll.
So media say you can't tax the rich because the plans taxing the rich will not go through Congress, right?
1/?
Our current healthcare system is very inefficient because the cost should be doctors +treatments +hospitals , but we also have to pay the enormous profits of the private insurance companies. It is projected that current system will cost 50 trillion over the next 10 years.
2/?
Sanders campaign& independent analysts eg. @MattBruenig have been shouting it from the rooftops that #MedicareForAll will save trillions for the American people. MSM pretend not to hear& keep asking "how will you pay for it".
How do you pay for something that costs less?
3/?
@MattBruenig Currently Americans pay for healthcare through premiums, deductibles and co-pays. Americans are not used for those to be called TAXES, but they ARE taxes and Bernie will make them go significantly DOWN. 4/?theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
@MattBruenig The problem has never been with Bernie's #MedicareForAll bill. It's with the disingenuous media pretending that under his bill cost will go up, when the opposite is true, because Americans will ONLY pay for healthcare, no more $$ to make private insurance companies.
5/?
@MattBruenig Couched in that constant repetition of a lie that #MedicareForAll cost more than the current system, is the media's question to Sanders "will you raise middle class taxes?" Technically there will be a new payroll tax in lieu of the monthly tax to private insurance companies.
6/?
@MattBruenig Bernie answers the question" yes, there will be a new payroll tax, but people making under 29K a year will be exempt and it will be progressive a progressive tax. Since #M4All is much more cost-efficient than our current system, middle class families will pay less, gives eg."
7/?
@MattBruenig Now WARREN, despite stating many times that she supports Bernie's #MedicareForAll bill, declined to admit in public that the bill TECHNIUELY raises taxes (while eliminating the tax to private insurance companies). We felt she was planning some kind of a coup on #M4All.
8/?
@MattBruenig My guess was Warren was going to back out of #MedicareForAll even before the primaries were over and suggest something that she labelled a "compromise." Let's review all the confusing messaging she did in the last year alone. 9/?
@MattBruenig NOW we know why Warren tried to dismiss Bernie's #MedicareForAll 100 page bill, that details funding& transition, as a mere FRAMEWORK. Using the media's narrative that Bernie doesn't have concrete plans, she is presenting herself as someone who swoops in and "saves" #M4All.
10/?
@MattBruenig Warren creates the narrative that she saves Bernie's "barely framework" idea ONLY because the media are playing along with her. IT IS very clever, It will help peel off some Bernie voters supporting #M4All, but it will not help #M4All. 11/?

@MattBruenig BTW I am very disappointed with Ady Barkan that he is letting himself to be used like that to kill #MedicareForAll.
This entire paragraph is so full of lies: Warren is no pioneer, BERNIE& other Single payer advocates have been ALWAYS saying #M4All saves money and how.
12/?
@MattBruenig Not to mention the unnecessary lies that Warren " cuts spending" on wars when, unlike Bernie, she voted for Trump's budget, and her foreign policy is significantly to the right of Bernie. Barkan's piece is pure propaganda & very troubling.
13/?
@MattBruenig But I digress, let's drive this baby home.
What is Warren"s GENIUS idea for funding #M4All?
Have the entire cost be paid by the rich.
We are supposed to believe that the rich will just pick up the tab for ENTIRE cost of healthcare for working and middle class in America.
14/?
@MattBruenig And THIS, my beloved audience, is how Warren attempts to kill #MedicareForAll, IF we let her.
Instead of Bernie's plan which simply REDUCES the cost of healthcare and lets everyone pay their fair share into the system, she proposes that working& middle classes pay NOTHING.
15/?
@MattBruenig This is #MedicareForAll funding designed for Warren to win the NOMINATION, but not designed to win the presidency. And it's not a plan that has ANY possibility of ever succeeding. Why should it? No country puts the entire burden of healthcare on the very rich. It's crazy.
16/?
@MattBruenig Update: in my naivete I believed the original descriptions of Warren's plan as funding working &middle class's healthcare by the very rich. In fact, it's even more deceitful. It protects the richest of the rich while burdens those with small business most, so the MIDDLE CLASS.
