White nationalism has a “we won” logic that is dangerous. Winning in their mind means “by any means necessary.” We destroyed the Native American population, therefore we have the right to place them on reservations, mistreat them & they don’t have any say.
It said, “We won over Africans by snatching them & making them slaves, breaking them, hanging them & destroying them. They are in chains; we won. Therefore, they don’t have anything to say.”
It said, “We won with the Dred Scott decision, so shut up & accept your slavery. We won in Plessy, so why are you fussing about Jim Crow?”
You can hear this white nationalist logic every time Kellyanne Conway goes on TV. Whenever a commentator questions Trump’s actions & lies, she says, “He won.”
Being in power doesn’t justify the wrong you did to get power or the ways you then abuse power. If “we won” is all you can say, you’re probably on the wrong side of history.
