Women own 42 percent of all businesses, but women-owned businesses only receive 4% of revenue. Lots of questions we should be exploring around this phenomenon discussed here. willowresearch.com/women-owned-bu…
It seems there's a combination of factors at work. One is that structural inequalities make it harder for women-owned businesses to grow. Also, because of those inequalities, women are starting businesses out of "need" rather than "opportunity."
We need to know more about what women are facing in business, why they start their businesses and the barriers to growth, but we also may need to think of other ways of measuring "success." What do women want when they start their own businesses?
The revenue disparity is even more pronounced for women minority-owned businesses, which also points to the structural disparities.
