Social Neuro AI: Social Interaction as the "dark matter" of AI

Happy to share this opinion paper I wrote with @introspection, on how we can advance the field of #SocialNeuroAI: arxiv.org/abs/2112.15459

A thread (1/10)
Learning adaptive information from others results in better regulation of task performance, especially by gaining fitness benefits and in avoiding some of the costs associated with asocial, trial-and-error learning.

(2/10)
Various categories of #sociallearning have been proposed, as well as social learning strategies that refine such categories and make them contextually appropriate.

1/ Excited to share how T cell therapies kill #leukemia!! multi-omics + new #computational #singlecell tools for longitudinal analysis 👉unexpected answer! cell.com/cell-reports/f…

2/ We studied donor lymphocyte infusion (DLI) - an #Immunotherapy for relapsed #leukemia after #BMT & the #og of #celltherapy. Previously, we showed DLI reversed T cell exhaustion - but didn't know why/how/which T cells were responsible...

3/ To address these ?'s, we modeled intraleukemic T cell dynamics by integrating longitudinal, multimodal data from ~100K T cells (!) during response (R) or resistance (NR: nonresponder) to DLI.

ACM #Multimedia 2021: Skeleton-Contrastive 3D Action Representation Learning w/ @fmthoker, @doughty_hazel: arxiv.org/abs/2108.03656 We learn invariances to multiple #skeleton representations and introduce various skeleton augmentations via noise contrastive estimation 1/n
Contribution I: leverage multiple input-representations of #3D-#skeleton sequences. Our inter-skeleton contrast learns from a pair of representations in a cross-contrastive fashion. Enriches the sparse input space and focuses on the high-level semantics of the skeleton data. 2/n
Contribution II: three skeleton-specific #augmentations for generating positive pairs which encourage the model to focus on the spatio- temporal #dynamics of skeleton-based @action sequences, ignoring confounding factors such as viewpoint and exact joint positions. 3/n

My last major thread before I relinquish my hold over this account will be on another topic I am really interested in math and science called "Chimeras" (kinda like this cat that I definitely included in my PhD defense slides because...cats of course) #physics #Dynamics Image
Luckily, I have a background in Greek & Roman Mythology (yay studying Latin for 9 years)

A chimera in Greek Mythology is beast whose earliest written evidence is credited to Homer's Iliad: a fire-breathing hybrid between lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail Image
"Just like this beast was created to be a plague for men, so too was this problem a plague for me, but unlike the men of mythology, my goal is not to defeat the chimera, but to subdue the beast and understand its behavior." -- a quote from my Ph.D. thesis.

1/ Is the stock market response to COVID-19 a once-in-a-generation mispricing? Has the pandemic really reduced the fundamental value of the US stock market on the order of 30%?

#coronavirus #covid19 #investing #stockmarket #behavioralfinance #socialecon #socialfinance
2/ I don’t know the answer, but there’s reason for suspicion. Suppose that rapidly-increasing social distancing policies and behaviors continue, along with increased testing and research on treatments.
3/ Some hard-hit countries are already getting the upper hand on their epidemics, which raises the hope that the US will also gain enough control in the coming months to start to limit the tragic consequences.

My previous threads on #qualitative #interviewing referred mainly to one-to-one, semi-structured interviews. Research interviews, however, can be conducted in more than one way. #1 @AcademicChatter #phdchat #QualitativeResearch
@AcademicChatter In this thread, some different ways to conduct interviews are discussed, so have a look and see whether a different format could help answer your research question better. #2
@AcademicChatter The social research literature categorises research interviews roughly into #structured, semi-structured, and unstructured interviews based on the degree of #planning or preparation from the interviewer’s side and the #leeway available for participants in their responses. #3

1. First release of {#idmodelr} is now on CRAN. {idmodelr} is a library of #infectiousdisease models and utilities for using them. Use case is exploration/education/research + signposting.

2. Current status is WIP with more features - and additional models - planned. Contributions much appreciated!

Planned features: github.com/seabbs/idmodel…
3. {#idmodelr} has an accompanying #shiny app that demos some of the functionality and can be used as a standalone tool for exploring infectious disease models.

See here: github.com/seabbs/explore…
