The press rewards white grievance and punishes non-white grievance.

They reward male grievance and punish female grievance.

This is a minority rule country, and we’ve got the press to show for it.

This isn’t limited to politics, or presidential campaigns. But nowhere is the double standard more necessary to the maintenance of minority rule than the national decision of who our leader will be and what they’ll look like.

This double standard inherently favors Republicans and punishes Democrats. Because Democrats are more likely to nominate women and people of color. Because Republicans are the party devoted to maintaining white male minority rule.

The left is far from free of this double standard. There’s a lot of left wing media that loves angry white guys, but only loves angry women and men of color if they stick to supporting roles.

It’s not that all coverage is like this. There are exceptions. Our version of minority rule isn’t overt and absolute. Partly because not everyone wants minority rule. But partly because our version masquerades as democracy. Which fuels the denial that shields it from criticism.

The media pushes denial and protects privilege. It’s on privileged people to stop buying it. It’s the only way to stop being complicit in minority rule.
