You can't do much via the income tax system to help the poorest. They haven't enough income to pay taxes on it. But this would be much more progressive than any of Osborne/Hammond's income tax measures. Despite being, also to its credit, less politically sexy.

Chapeau.
On "politically sexy", this is how politically salient national insurance contributions cuts are. Which (in my mind) raises the, if you like, 'moral credit' attached to the policy.
(Looking at that chart, if the Tories want the double win of saliency and progressivity they should cut council tax which is wildly regressive. #TopTips)

Probably just me, but the BBC's scrutiny of the Government during the general election campaign feels better than its scrutiny of Government thinking on Brexit. The BBC seems still to be able to do scrutiny when it wants to. /1
If this is right, it does raise questions about how different the world might now look had the BBC had not taken the decision in early 2017 that: "The duty we broadcasters had to “broadly balance” the views of the two sides is at an end." (radiotimes.com/news/2017-04-0…). /2
If - as is my strong impression - the world would now look very different had the BBC properly scrutinised Brexit, it raises a series of really important questions about the BBC going forward. /3

Those who have raised the need for reform of the criminal justice system - most notably @VeraBaird but me and others too - to address this profound and widespread scandal have been subject to furious (often personal) criticism by high profile barristers tweeting on criminal law.
But I repeat my call. The Criminal Bar is in a uniquely powerful place to lobby against reform but also to suggest and promote reform. The status quo fails women and it fails the very idea of justice. No one who cares about either should suffer it to continue.

Bernie cont. he thinks Warren’s $9 trillion “employer Medicare contribution” will have a “very negative impact” on jobs.
“I think that that would probably have a very negative impact on creating those jobs, or providing wages, increased wages and benefits for those workers”
Bernie’s math on funding M4A has been fuzzier, less detailed. “You're asking me to come up with an exact detailed plan of how every American — how much you're going to pay more in taxes, how much I'm going to pay. I don't think I have to do that right now” hesaid this last week.

Elizabeth Warren's plan for Medicare for all would finance health care in a much more progressive way than today, resulting in low and middle income paying much less and the wealthy paying much more.

The key to Warren's plan for financing Medicare for all is aggressively constraining prices paid to hospitals, physicians, and drug companies. We'd still have the most expensive health system in the world, but it would be less expensive than it is now.
One way in which Warren avoids a broad-based tax increase that hits the middle-class is by requiring employers and states to continue paying approximately what they are today for health care.

The NRA is in Republicans’ pocketbooks as well as ears, telling them how to spread fear & lies about guns to the public.

If we are going to get out of the messes we are in, I believe we have to start with a more accurate image of ourselves and the world of which we are a part. A thread about #system boundaries, abortion bans, climate change, gun safety, and more.
We each are flows, more like flames or whirlpools than rocks or billiard balls, in constant exchange with the 'environment. Your 'boundaries' are so much more fluid than everyday perception (in this western industrial growth society at least) suggests.
I mean this literally - not metaphorically. What was 'not you' moments before you drank a glass of water now is 'you.'
