@Gopanarya deha-ātman metaphor is apt. Of course, we should love, protect and nourish India, like one would it’s deha. But precisely because it is home and refuge of dharma, like deha of ātman.

If dharma goes, what is India worth? What is Pakistan was also India just a few decades back.

@Gopanarya On the other hand, there are countries beyond India where dharma is practiced.

So, patriotic nationalism is fine and understandable as long as it serves the purposes of dharma.

One’s calling nationalism as supreme (sans dharma), is forgetting the ātman in ones love for deha

@Gopanarya It is not denying nationalism if one were to say that one’s commitment for dharma > for the nation-state of India.

The question was the relevance of nationalism in a more globalizing world, and I agree with Elst that the tree of dharma can be (should be) spread everywhere.

Yes, the river is called वेदश्रुति!!

Certain descriptions mention वेदश्रुति as the river that defined Kosala-proper's eastern boundary - Sarayu being the Western!

“Anti Hindu Stereotypes in the Media” - this was the topic of Dr. @Koenraad_Elst ’s talk yesterday.

He narrated with clinical precision, not only how the media -western and Indian- is hostile to Hinduism but also and more importantly - why.
He stated that whilst the general impression in the West a few decades back was quite redpectful towards Hinduism but hostile to India - now it is the other way round - India might be seen in a positive light now but Hinduism is made a sharp focus of negative impressions.

The latest issue of the Time magazine calling Modi the Divider-in-Chief was bound to came up, which it did as the chief exemplar of what is going on.

Dr @Koenraad_Elst used this as a case study to discuss at length and illustrate the anatomy of the problem.

Mohammed was sent with the Truth according to the Quran, and Jesus identified him "Spirit of TRUTH" And according to 1 John 4:1 spirit and Prophet are synonymous!
Jesus Christ is an advocate, and he will ask the Father to send Another advocate meaning someone like him (Man and a Prophet) because the Greek word used for "Another" is "Allos" which means another of the same kind, so it's someone who is a man and a prophet like Jesus
How is the advocate the holy spirit if the advocate cannot come until Jesus leaves and the holy spirit was always there? And the deciples even received the Holy spirit while Jesus was still there.

#History/#Art thread – From my recent trip to Madurai/Tirunelveli. On Jain sites (some with a rich history dating back to at least the 3rd cent. BCE), early Pandyan rock-cut cave temples (7th-8th cent. CE) & the amazing Vettuvan koil.

Before I start on the places, the history around all this is fascinating & splits opinion. Is it apt to call the script Tamili/Tamil Brahmi? Did it develop independently in the Tamil country/come with the Jain monks from the north? Were 8,000 Jains actually impaled in Madurai?>
