I honestly don't see how one can both be Catholic and Republican. I have my problems with the church, but it believes in science, facts and logic, the Pope accepts the existence of global warming, the church's social doctrine is the opposite of the GOP's economic philosophy etc.
There is one area of overlap--abortion. That's it. And the church doesn't even follow its own historical perspective on that issue. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12178868

I understand why Democratic politicians don't tell voters this--they need for people to be idealistic and inspired--but the reality is that it will take at least 4 years just to fix all the messes that Trump has created, and much, much longer for some of them.
Moreover, the fiscal hole that the GOP has created with its tax give-away means there will be no money to pay for anything. The mainstream media will be closely allied with Republicans in opposing new spending initiatives and making deficit reduction the order of the day.
There is zero chance that MMT or anything like it will be adopted to pay for stuff. It will have to be done the old-fashioned way by raising taxes, which will be painful. protracted and incremental. Republicans will engage in scorched-earth policies the whole way.

Some people wonder why I am always so insulting towards Trumpsters, Republicans and right-wingers. They say that I am offending and driving away potential allies. The reason is that none of these people are potential allies. None. They are a lost cause and a lost generation...
and will keep voting they way they do until they die. All we can do is wait them out. Additionally, I get great pleasure from speaking my mind. Other people play golf in their retirement, I say what I think....
If they don't like it, no one is forced to read me and can block me if they want to. Finally, I see a lot of fear in this country, with many people very afraid of saying what they think because right-wing bullies will attack them and make them miserable. I speak for them because

Controversial thesis--Trump may be among the most successful presidents in history even if he serves just one term and even if he is impeached and removed from office....
In just 3 years he has accomplished more to implement a conservative agenda than all of the Republican presidents since WWII put together. He did it by not giving a shit and just doing stuff, pushing the envelope of presidential discretion to the maximum....
While much of what he has done will fall because of court decisions and the actions of the next administration to reverse his policies, much of what Trump has done will remain, permanently. This is what I would call the two-steps-forward-one-step-backwards approach to policy....

What is clear: #SanDiego is full of ambitious politicians who change party, office and/or districts to stay in/run for office.

They changed their party registration then worked against #progressives when they run against #moderates. Women of color were especially impacted by moderate party policies & actions in 2018
3/ @sandiegodems used "member communication" $ to attack @CD4Monica @vivianmorenoSD in their elections

Both women won- despite institutional #Democrat opposition. Hopefully this teaches local Democrats about the power & need for #diversity & representation in #SanDiego politics

Adelson has private in-person meetings & phone conversations about once a month with #Trump!

Adelson used his access to move the embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and cut aid to Palestinians.
