A NY Times Guide on How to defend Islamic Jihad:
1) In two subsequent articles on two subsequent days, refrain from directly calling the terror group a terror group—even though you call other terror groups terror groups.

2) In those two articles, refrain even from noting that Islamic Jihad is widely designated internationally as a terror group, including by the EU, Canada, UK, New Zealand, Australia, United States, and Israel.

3) In a subsequent (3rd) article, open by casting Islamic Jihad, known for sending bombers into cafes, buses, and markets to blow up Jewish men, women and children, as feisty little fighters— "a nettlesome, unruly and heavily armed little group called Palestinian Islamic Jihad."
4) Etherealize Islamic Jihad's violence—violence that destroys families and, by carefully designed bomb engineering, rips Israeli flesh to shreds—by calling Islamic Jihad the "untrammeled id of the Palestinian resistance movement."
5) Continue to prefer for the term Gaza terror groups use to describe their terrorism when casting Hamas as a "champion of armed resistance to Israel."
6) Only then, only after editors were questioned on your avoidance of the T-word, should you bury in this third story the fact that "Both groups are viewed as terrorist organizations by Israel and the United States." (Don't use our common "widely viewed" boilerplate!)
7) Having done that, quickly mislead readers with a falsehood to mitigate Islamic Jihad's goals" Claim that they prioritize "resistance to the Israeli occupation"—as if the group is just opposed to Israel's presence in the West Bank and not it's very existence!
Never mind what Islamic Jihad freely admits, and has always freely admitted:
8) Close by downplaying the impact scores of rockets rained down on cities has on Israelis — quote an analyst complaining that "my supermarket wasn't open yesterday."
Today's New York Times piece by David Halbfinger is atrocious. Hopefully editors can be made to understand that. nytimes.com/2019/11/13/wor…
Also: Did any of the three articles note that Islamic Jihad's firing of indiscriminate rockets at civilians is inarguably a violation of international law? No. The paper generally reserves that term to describe Israeli settlements. camera.org/article/when-i…
Also: Did any of the articles note that Islamic Jihad and Hamas are "extremist," "racist," or "anti-Jewish"?

No, although they've used those terms well over a dozen times in recent months in reference to Israel's prime minster and to a (vile) Israeli political party, Otzma.
Recall that these are organizations that approvingly cite hadiths about killing all the Jews, that deny the Holocaust, that spread the blood libel about Jews using non-Jewish blood to make Passover matza.
Let me be more specific about why this closing passage is insulting…
A million Israelis were forced into bomb shelters. Elderly Holocaust survivors scrambled down stairs to spend the night along traumatized children on mattresses on concrete floors.
