Sorry, Andrew Yang, but the media has been more than fair to your fringe campaign. MSNBC has given you a lot of coverage for someone with your very low poll numbers. This tweet is embarrassing and disqualifying, and it raises serious questions about why you’re even running.
Every democratic presidential primary, the conspiracy theorists of the left line up behind a candidate they know won’t win, and they push false claims about the media and the DNC are somehow conspiring against that candidate. It ends up being as deranged as anything on the right.
Sooner or later that candidate ends up believing the nonstop conspiracy hype from his supporters, and the end result is a tweet like the one that Andrew Yang just posted. He’s gone from a smart entrepreneur with some good ideas, to wearing a tinfoil hat. It’s just sad.
Meanwhile the rest of us not caught up in the “conspiracy candidate vortex” just roll our eyes at it. But most pundits are afraid to point out the lunacy of it, for fear that the conspiracy candidate’s cult members will target them in coordinated fashion.
It’s a testament to the overwhelming fairness of the DNC process that candidates polling as poorly as Yang are still being included on the main debate stage. But five debates, their poll numbers are still pathetic. Almost no one is buying what these fringe candidates are selling.
It’s also a testament to MSNBC’s fairness that very low polling candidates, like Yang and others, have been given prominent interview spots on Maddow and such. I could write a book about what’s wrong with MSNBC in general, but they’ve been very fair to these candidates.
Yang is refusing to go on MSNBC, because MSNBC supposedly doesn’t give him enough airtime. The logic of that is nuts. It tells us that he knows the only life left in his failed campaign is the false narrative that he’s being blackballed, and he’s afraid to give up that narrative.
If Yang’s “proof of conspiracy” against him is that his distant irrelevant fifth place campaign is getting less coverage than the distant irrelevant sixth or seventh place campaign, then that’s a pathetic level of whining on his part.
Andrew Yang entered this race a successful and respected guy with some good ideas. But because he bought into the tinfoil hat brigade and became one of them, he’ll forever be remembered as a dishonest, whiny, juvenile asswipe and nothing more.
