We must remember that "Buddhist" monks took "Hindu goddesses" like Saraswati to Japan.

This is why the construction of neo-Buddhism as some kind of rebellion against Hinduism (and not having "gods") is so hilarious.

Buddhism is Hinduism for export. It is the same foundation.
Completely false. Buddha is very concerned with Varna. Almost all Buddhists in Buddhas time were "upper caste" Brahmins and Kshatriyas.

This article by @Koenraad_Elst is helpful.

@Koenraad_Elst Buddha claimed descent from Manu (for all the neo-Buddhists railing against "manuvaad") and claimed to be an avatar of Rama. (ditto).

He called himself an Arya (oops "Aryan invasion") and his teaching the Arya Satya (but translated, in this case as "noble" not Aryan truths.😉)
@Koenraad_Elst So why did Buddhism "disappear" from India? It didn't.

Wherever Buddhist teaching went it adapted to local culture. In India too. What came after can be called Hindu-Buddhism.

The monastic elements and institutions were largely destroyed by those who hate "but(buddha) parasti."
