As a grad student, people asked me that dreaded question of what I wanted to do "after" - and truthfully, I couldn't answer.
What did I know? [1/n]
- I applied for some money and went to Munich, Germany for my first presentation at an international congress (@PHOTONICSWORLD). It was also my first time overseas. The experience melted my brain and I knew I wanted more.
- My next conference? #ICORS2016 in Brasil [2/n]
- I loved grad school 📔 I loved research 🔍I still love science 🧬
Academia sometimes felt like a bubble and I believed peeking over its walls was the right path for me. And the early reports are in: life exists outside the ivory tower, and it's kinda cool [3/n]
- With three degrees in hand 📜📜📜, prior experience supervising and mentoring students, I didn't believe a post-doc was going to help me.
Instead, I've spent the last two years working in communications, a field where I had zero relevant education (on paper) [4/n]
Because anyone near the end of their grad school, anyone not sure if they can make it outside of academia in the #altac world, anyone not sure of what comes next.
It's OK not to know. There's a world out there waiting to be explored 🕵️🌏🔭
