There are *so many things wrong* with Sen. Burr's responses in this interview, I don't know where to start. But I guess here's a good spot: media did *not* say that Russian officials just having a *preference* for Trump was "election meddling." And Burr saying so is *outrageous*.
1/ Moreover, comparing

1) Russian officials favoring Trump BECAUSE HE SUPPORTED THEM FACING NO PUNISHMENT FOR THE WAR CRIME OF INVADING EUROPE AND STEALING EUROPEAN LAND

and

2) Ukrainian officials favoring Clinton BECAUSE SHE SUPPORTED LONGTIME NATO PARTNER UKRAINE

is lunacy.
2/ To put a finer point on it: Trump's 2016 Russia policy was the most significant betrayal of America's national interests in the *modern history of US politics*. That Ukraine *and the rest of the world* were *horrified* by it represents *no* change in anyone's long-held views.
3/ It's like Trump saying, "I don't care if Ukraine exists, I don't care how many Ukrainians die, I don't care how many war crimes Russia commits against Ukraine, but SO HELP ME GOD if ANY Ukrainian says an UNKIND WORD about me I can commit as many crimes against them as I want."
4/ In the law we have something called the "reasonable person" standard—considered an *objective* standard by *law*. It asks what a reasonable person would do.

Under *no* reading of that standard are Trump's actions within the *universe* of what the law forgives as "reasonable."
5/ For instance, you can't kill a baby lying under a blanket in a stroller and claim in defense that you thought the baby was coming at you with a gun. The *obscenity* of Trump's Russia policy—combined with the *obscenity* of his Ukraine policy—is as demented as killing the baby.
6/ Ukrainians *objectively* had a right to voice their opinion that *any* politician—of any nation—advocating their systematic destruction by Kremlin war crimes was (is) *wrong*. By the same token *no* politician—of any country—could support Russian war crimes and be in the pale.
7/ What Trump wants is therefore *doubly* demented. He wants to treat

(1) Advocating Ukraine's destruction as REASONABLE, and
(2) advocating Russian war crimes as REASONABLE,

and on those grounds, he wants Americans to say that his fear of Ukrainian "corruption" was in-bounds.
8/ So when Burr says Ukrainians supporting longstanding US policy in Europe is *the same as* Trump supporting Russian war crimes, there's no jury that'd come to that conclusion. In fact even making the argument is risible; almost like saying—as Trump did—we should kill civilians.

This pap is like saying, "Look—you've disliked this bank robber ever since he started robbing banks. You're saying now that he robbed a bank not because all the evidence shows he robbed a bank [though it does] but because you're biased against bank robbers and always have been."
1/ Not *one Democrat* I know dislikes Trump simply because he won in 2016. That's not how people think—ever—whether they're on the left or right of the political spectrum or anywhere in-between. Democrats saw from the jump—correctly—that Trump had been and was committing crimes.
2/ Republicans say that Democrats need to do more to understand them, and on a *qualified* basis I actually agree with that (understanding does not require subsuming oneself). But Great God, do Republicans have *any* clue how *Democrats* think? I see no sign of that *whatsoever*.

Turley's testimony is *beyond belief*. He conceded that in-kind benefits can be the subject of a bribery case, but *erased* from the bribery statute the solicitation clause of the statute, saying *all bribes must be completed to be charged*. False, and I can't believe he said it.
1/ Turley is doing what attorneys do when they're misbehaving: talk a lot about the "record" without ever discussing it in detail. When he's talking about Obama or other Democrats, he gets *very* specific about the facts. When he discusses Trump, it's just "the record." Risible.
2/ Jonathan Turley's strength has always been that he sounds eminently *reasonable*. The best *bad* attorneys are those who manage to make bad legal analysis and a poor knowledge of the record sound fantastically well-qualified.

Kudos to him for that, but nothing else, sadly.

What Turley just did is gaslight America, telling those of us seeking to uphold rule of law that we're just acting hysterically. His conclusion: if you are a well-trained attorney, investigator, researcher and/or journalist who believes Trump committed a crime, you're just "mad."
1/ Turley is *right* that many of us, me included, are angered by injustice, violations of the rule of law, lies being told about us and/or our nation in the media or by politicians. What he assumes, without evidence, is that the angry can't act justly or soberly or with caution.
2/ Today I heard 20 minutes of audio that was all about me. The audio included so many lies about me, my history, my actions, my views, my philosophy, and my values that I would have to blow *days* responding. I won't. There's no time to waste on lies. So I'm angry, but resolved.

Many things wrong with DAG Jeff Rosen's screed against reform DAs & their policies to lower incarceration.

But this line gives away a basic misunderstandings. These DAs were not appointed. They were elected. AND ran on these platforms. AND were attacked. AND won anyway. [Thread]
DAs long used their power to amplify punitive laws, & make U.S. staggeringly incarcerative place it is. Idea was, that's how you win DA elections.

But that stopped. Organizers pressed the case that this was breaking (some) communities. People ran on that agenda. And they won.
Rosen claims his worry is DAs exceeding their authority. Well, reformers have long demanded reducing DA powers to shrink system! But that's not Rosen's issue.

His issue now is with democracy. It's that people are ELECTING DAs who ran on using discretion to shrink incarceration.

Most of the abuses that this sector of media is critical about come from internet giants, who pay lip service in response, because those abuses are very profitable, & regulation is unlikely in the US & users not motivated enough to change their usage of networks. /2
US regulation that would help stop the criticized practices is unlikely to help, mainly because Congress isn't qualified to design these regulations, so they would leave it to lobbyists working for the industry to be regulated /3

An American "security" company, Area 1, reportedly founded by former intelligence officials, made 1,100 sensitive diplomatic cables stolen from the EU available to The New York Times. I have so many questions.
First: the attribution to the PLA here is flimsy. What does "resembling techniques" even mean? No forensics details provided. Area 1 has no widely known track record of public forensic work and attribution. The New York Times really should have pushed them for more detail here.
