Then please don't ever lecture anyone ever again about honesty, probity, integrity or morality.

And don't bother moaning, either, when you realise Brexit will rumble on for years to come. You really, totally, absolutely were warned...
Good, when a tweet brings out a load of Tory & Brexit ranters - nice and easy to block. Interesting, among the nutters screeching "bloody leftie, EU traitor, pity your students" = number who denounce my membership of / support for Labour. Neither of which exists. #TacticalVoting
Best of all? Those who think Johnson will get us out of EU then it's done and dusted... Sorry, but if that happens, campaign to rejoin starts immediately. And it will happen. So your wee Brexit is just a temporary waste of time, money and energy: please pause over that thought...

Small & typical yet still illuminating insight into the dim & confined but dangerous mentality of so many Brexit-loving Tory supporters:

"You're so biased, always criticising the government... If you were a real academic, you'd defend your country not betray it"

Deary deary me
So:
- government [they voted for as minority of electorate] is not to be criticised
- any criticism = automatically "biased" [no such thing as valid critique or debate]
- question government = have your professional ability / status attacked [even though it's core part of job]
- purpose of research is not compile & evaluate objective evidence, but to promote blind [English...] nationalism
- any academic who does their job properly = a traitor

And these are the people who screech with indignation when one suggests they have authoritarian tendencies?

I've been sketching out my CMLRev article, the section on future EU-UK relations. May as well share a few thoughts with the interested online public, about what Johnson's extremist stance boils down to:
1) On plus side, UK has finally moved beyond excruciating period when Leave campaign / May Government promised all things to all people, pretending it could ever possibly happen. Now: UK position has greater coherence, more political realism and respects basic EU legal principles
2) But cost of clarity? UK Government is driving headlong towards serious rupture in relations with EU - and true whether there is a deal or whether there is none. Pigheaded stance on transitional extension only exacerbates situation: makes "two regulatory changes" more likely

Important to highlight (often neglected) question: how does UK government's policy choice to pursue only distant future relationship with EU, then impact back upon equally important policy dilemmas still to be made about internal UK governance / future relations? Two examples...
1) more UK diverges from EU, more there is scope for devolved divergence within UK between Scotland, Wales, NIreland & England = problems of "UK Internal Market" become even more pressing, yet remain just as difficult to resolve (while still almost absent from Westminster debate)
2) more UK diverges from EU, more difficult trade & security relations might well become, if and when Scotland votes to become independent sovereign state within EU (assuming what remains of UK is still third country): all those hard/soft border problems will be back again...

1. Brexit is not the EU's priority: like the UK, France does not want Brexit dominating the news. Most important EU decisions now are MFF & green deal. Other EU countries think the same as @Mij_Europe said y'day:
2. Trade talks will be far from easy: France (like rest of EU) knows UK wants to diverge - the key concern for France is how to prevent divergence from (i) undercutting EU business & (ii) disrupting trade flows. Trade-off is simple: lower standards, reduced market access.

When supporters of Boris Johnson say: he achieved what so many claimed was impossible: he got EU to renegotiate #Brexit deal therefore he can also get an EU trade deal done by December next year although many say unlikely .. It’s important to remember the red line PM crossed.. /1
He didn’t get the new Brexit deal by bullying/impressing/charming the EU. He got it by agreeing to protect their single market on island of Ireland after Brexit by putting a customs border down the Irish Sea. Allowing a ‘division’ between NIreland + GB he’d pledged never to do /2
Of course the EU also engaged with Boris Johnson because they believed that he - as a political figure - had a better chance of selling a deal back home to MPs than Theresa May ever had - BUT have a chat in EU circles .. /3

A vote, won by cheats, sensationalising and radicalising opinions that appealed to the most base instincts of an already fearful populous.
Mass media is taking its lead from the loudest voices with the most money. Oversimplifying and exaggerating the voices and agenda of key players who represent the richest and most powerful.

#BREXIT craziness update so maybots deal is blown out of the water l. Similarly corbyns vote of no confidence fails and won't be backed by SNP and lib dems
Despite her #BREXIT deal being defeated by biggest margin a government has lost a vote ever maybot seeks concessions on backstop despite being told to bog off by the EU with no realistic hope of a different answer
Corbyn meanwhile refuses to talk #BREXIT without no deal being ruled out despite knowing she can't do this whilst maybot makes no concessions either.

#brexit seems to be all about feeling over fact and this is especially true of the ReesMogg ERG faction of the Tory right.
I never bought the line that #brexit is about Democracy because most of the Tory right had zero enthusiasm for improving democracy in the UK few of them care about unelected house of lords the unfair FPTP electoral system or transparency on the contrary
Most of the Tory right are interested only in constitutional changes that suit them and if anything strive to be as little democratically accountable as possible.
